Bonnie

Franklyn Bonnie Christian Johnson-Williams, best known as Bonnie - is one of Sierra Leone's youngest and finest Music Educators. He is a professional Afro-Jazz Trumpeter and a versatile multi-instrumentalist. He began his trumpet career at the age of 14yrs, performing with pop bands in night clubs and was also a Jazz Trombonist.
 
His formal music education commenced when he became a Performing Arts student of the Milton Margai College of Education (Sierra Leone). It was in this institution that he received his training as a teacher, under the supervision of Dr. Kitty Fadlu-Deen, after which he gave his invaluable service to music teaching and performance in Freetown.
 
His love for brass music came to the fore when he was Director of the Saint Joseph's Secondary School Brass Band and as a composer, he has arranged music for various instrumental and vocal ensembles.

While Vice Principal of the Ballanta Academy of Music (2004-2007), he worked relentlessly in bringing music to the forefront in the Freetown society and has invested significantly in the lives of youngsters who desire to pursue their careers in music.
 
He did his best to shape the lives of his students through music, equipping them with life skills and he his delighted to know that some of them are now teachers at The Ballanta Academy and other schools in Freetown.
 
In 2007, he was awarded a scholarship by the Principal’s Trust of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow-Scotland, to pursue a postgraduate degree, MA Arts in Social Context.    (Continue)
